Hey everyone! My name is Grace Baldwin, and I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. I attended the Woodlands High School, and the American International School of Lagos as well. I have grown up traveling and living around the world. I am Vietnamese American, and I grew up in Houston and lived in Lagos from 2011-2015. I moved to Austin for my undergraduate degree, and I studied abroad in Rome, and now I am living in Bishkek!
I describe myself as an art historian and museum fanatic, YA book reader, workplace sitcom watcher, cinephile and film critic, dabbler in creative writing, occasional linguist, and traveler. I primarily come from a writing background, and I have experience as a private tutor, a freelance state and local debate judge, and a professional/application and STEM writing consultant.

TLDR; this is my blog, and I'm currently in Kyrgyzstan! I'm writing this blog in an epistolary format, as if I'm writing to a friend, which I technically am doing. I ramble, as such there is an FAQ section for lame people who don't like to read.

A Summer in Bishkek

Salut! Yay…. summer is finally here in Kyrgyzstan… :/. So not a slay. It’s daily here 90-95 degrees or up, sometimes 100, and no AC. Being able to go to Bishkek has been a dream, and the city is indeed fun. I’ve been three times, and a blend of so much, truly, and bigger than I originally thought. I spotted a Hogwarts Cafe (haven’t gone in yet), and we found a Sierra Cafe, a coffee shop with deep Peace Corps roots, so I’ve been told. Peace Corps volunteers have been going to the cafe for decades, and a member of its corporate board is a former Kyrgyz PCV who has stayed in Bishkek for a long time (I think he was in K-15 or something- the K-# refers to what number cohort you are of the PC time in Kyrgyzstan, I am K-29, ie the 29th cohort or 29th year of PC in Kyrgyzstan, last years’ is K-28).  They often say in Peace Corps that you’re part of something big, and that when you leave, you may create something or continue something you never get to see. On Top of the World

Salut,  I turned 21! The last week was mostly not notable, but I was excited to celebrate my birthday. Here, it means nothing to turn 21, which is unfortunate. My family had been cleaning all week for the toi, a large party/celebration. The masters as they’re called- or delivery/construction workers, were working constantly at night in the kitchen. Now it looks very modern, with a new sink, stovetop, cabinets, all of it. We got a new table, and a new fold-out couch and Eliza’s room got remodeled with a new bed, dresser, and wardrobe, but of course, my baike, Eldiyar, and his wife, Dinka (Dinara), took it over, so now she sleeps in the dining/guest room or on the couch or in our apa’s room until I leave.  The weekend was the most chaotic. I woke up on my birthday early to floods of people in the house. My aunts and uncles were there and borsok (fried dough, like puff puffs) and candy and tea were all over the table. Introduction

  Salut  (Hi)  Mihica, I remember my first attempt to make a website; I can scarcely remember the domain name, but I definitely used my handy weebly subdomain. It was a book review website back around 2016 or so. I should probably provide some context. Mihica is my BFF, and we've known each other for about eleven, almost twelve, years. Since 2015, we've been writing (typing lol) emails back and forth to each other. I have my own sort of rambling when I write, but I often prefer it. I think it's the best way I'm able to communicate over writing and my best practiced form. As such, here we are. Those who know me are rolling their eyes. A blog, how Grace!
